Siren Song

Three paintings and an event along the River Mersey in Stockport, where I live.

Siren I, Siren II and Siren III each measure 120cm x 120cm and are in oil on stretched canvas.

The paintings were paraded from my studio on the banks of the river Goyt, to the confluence of the Rivers Goyt and Tame, where officially the River Mersey begins. Here we staged a short ritual and the paintings were shrouded.

Three impulses. One: The river Mersey, whose history and legacy evidences the dangers of industrial civilisation. Two: ‘The Sirens and Ulysses’ a painting by William Etty, which hangs in Manchester City Art Gallery. Three: International Remembrance Day for Lost Species.
