A large scale painting in oil on unstretched primed canvas. 150cm x 260cm. Painted in 2017.

Three impulses: One: witnessing the many thousands of women seeking refuge in Greece fleeing war in Syriah, Iraq and Afghanistan. Two: the painting ‘Captive Andromache’ by Sir Frederick Leighton, which hangs in Manchester City Gallery. Three: A production of ‘The Suppliant Women’ a play by Aeschylus at the Royal Exchange Theatre.
