Wonders of the lane.
A series of drawings made on site of each tree in a length of historic hawthorn hedging along an ancient track where I live. Each drawing becoming the basis for a fanciful image for a self published book celebrating ‘The wonders of the lane’.
Three impulses. One: Opposition to the proposed widening of a local cycle path along all that remains of a local ancient trackway in urban Stockport which would result in the removal of aged hawthorns and the historic hedge. Two: Solastalgia. My grief for the ongoing environmental loss in my neighbourhood since I was a child. Three: The need to respond as an artist and to bear witness to the change.
